Japanese PM Shinzo Abe calls early elections.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called a snap election, one year earlier than is constitutionally mandated.
In a statement on Monday, Abe said that he will dissolve the Japanese parliament on Thursday.
Abe is currently seeing a surge in Japanese opinion polls largely due to his support of the US and South Korea on the North Korea issue.
Problems on the peninsula have been a distraction away from domestic problems that have plagued his premiership in recent months, and the opposition parties struggling to tackle the leader on any substantive issues.
Abe also simultaneously announced a 2-trillion Yen ($1.78bn) stimulus package aimed at debt reduction, education and other social spending obligations.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
